Some stories aren't just told.
They're experienced.
This one began with a drive through the Olympic Mountains, winding roads, towering evergreens, and breathtaking overlooks that felt too beautiful to rush past. To her, it was simply another adventure together. A day spent exploring some of Washington's most incredible landscapes.
To him, every mile brought them one step closer to forever.
She thought she knew what came next.
Some stories begin with a plan.
This one began with a surprise.
Wyatt had spent weeks planning every detail. The mountains. The coast. The timing. The ring hidden away.
Cali thought they were simply spending the day exploring Washington together.
She had no idea she was about to say yes.
The Plan
One of my favorite parts about photographing proposals is getting to help make them happen.
Before we started, Wyatt and I had a "pose" planned.
I told Cali I wanted her to face the mountains while Wyatt ran up behind her, picked her up, and spun her around.
She was waiting for him to run.
Instead…
He dropped to one knee.
For a second, she kept waiting.
Then I smiled and said,
"Actually... Cali, I want you to run to him."
She turned around...
...and everything changed.
The Moment Everything Changed
There is something so beautiful about watching realization happen.
Not after.
Not once the ring is on.
But that exact second when someone recognizes what they're seeing.
The confusion.
The smile that appears before they can even answer.
Those few seconds might have only lasted a heartbeat.
They're the ones they'll remember forever.
The "Yes"
A simple speech.
No surrounding audience.
Just mountains stretching for miles and two people choosing forever.
And then...
Pure joy.
From the Mountains to the Coast
The proposal lasted only a few minutes.
The rest of the evening was spent simply soaking it all in.
Watching them together afterward reminded me why I love documenting these stories.
The proposal is only one chapter.
The quiet moments afterward become the pages people return to.
Still can't stop looking at the ring.
Hands find each other.
The quiet.
Golden hour.
Some love stories begin with fireworks.
Some begin with a quiet walk through the mountains.
One carefully planned pose.
One unexpected turn.
One knee in the grass.
One simple "yes."
The mountains witnessed the question.
The Pacific watched the beginning.
And somewhere between the two, these photographs became more than images—they became the first pages of a story they'll tell for the rest of their lives.
